CHARACTER NAME: Kenos
CANON & HISTORY: Original canon.
Kenos is from an original canon, where demons and humans have their own realms they reside in. Some demons have powers to access the human realm, and use this to frequently terrorize Earth. All demons have something called a Purpose.
A demon's Purpose is, well, their purpose for existing. How they contribute to the world, what they were built to do. Some demons are created to be builders or hunters or teleporters or whatever sometimes highly specific thing some demons decided they needed. Deviating from your Purpose is a heavy taboo among demons.
Kenos is as a hunger-gatherer type demon. Hunger-gatherers are the only demons to experience a type of infancy. Most demons tend to be sort of 'cloned' from one or more others, and are capable of fufilling their Purpose right away. Because of this, hunger-gatherers are considered 'disgustingly human' and aren't held in high regards.
Created to serve the witch demons, a hunger-gatherer's Purpose is to collect ingredients from the human realm through the portals in their stomachs. Each hunger-gatherer has their own ingredient they're hardwired to collect. Kenos in particular is meant to collect humans, with a leaning towards younger and/or more nutritious humans.
Kenos's first experience in the human realm was highly traumatic, as they found human children very similar to themself, but they were unable to resist their instinct to consume. Once they had met their quota and were automatically sent back to the demon realm, they told their family they refused to collect humans again.
To prevent Kenos from worsening others' view of hunger-gatherers, their family never taught them how to resist their need to consume. They forced them to keep collecting just by sending them out and letting their instincts do the rest.
After years of abuse from their family, Kenos was able to resist their instincts just long enough to avoid meeting their quota and escape from any nearby humans. They stumbled upon a farm and the elderly woman who owns it while running away from the havoc they created. Due to her age, she didn't trigger their hunger. When asked why they were treading on her property, Kenos informed her that they were hiding.
The woman, Miss Eileen, told them that if they were going to hide on her farm they would have to do work there too, and showed them a fenced off strawberry field. Kenos agreed once they realized the work didn't involve hurting anyone.
They spent the next several months tending to the strawberry field and getting to know Miss Eileen. During this time, Eileen offered them meals and eventually even a place to sleep within her own home.
AGE: Demon age is kind of hard to determine but they're probably in their equivalent of late teens or early 20s.
CANON POINT: Very first chapter, just after what's described above.
PERSONALITY:
Kenos, like other hunger-gatherers, is naturally quiet and good at fading into the background despite their size. This, combined with their upbringing and isolation, has made them rather introverted and antisocial. They aren't averse to answering questions about themself if asked, but they don't tend to seek out conversation since they were taught not to speak unless spoken to. However, they are young and curious about the world around them. Once given a safe space to do so, they frequently inquire Miss Eileen about humans and Earth.
In conversation, they tend to be quiet and a bit awkward, but subjects they've thought on a lot may get them to speak their mind (though it's short and to the point.) They're nervous, however, and will clam back up if they sense any hostility or disagreement from their conversational partner. They don't tend to assert boundaries, and would instead put up with something annoying instead of just saying "Hey could you maybe not bring your pets that eat my strawberries every day?"
They're pretty nervous, and lean towards flight between fight-or-flight. Their (extremely rare) anger is just a secondary emotion to fear; the only time you'll find them lashing out is if they feel backed into a corner, or sometimes if they're scared of hurting someone else (in the case of humans.) They’re sensitive to the pain of other beings as a result of their abuse, and choosing to run away from their Purpose and family was partly related to their desire to not hurt people.
They will generally do what they're told if it doesn’t harm others, whether being commanded by a friend or stranger. They're obedient and reliable. They desire chores as serving is in their blood, and if they agree to do something, it's insured to get done. They're efficient and hardworking at completing their tasks. They're also a pushover, and if you happened to find something they genuinely didn't want to do, a “pleeease” or two would break them.
Kenos is very self-disciplined (aside from the I-need-to-eat-this-person-right-now instincts) and needs little to be satisfied. They're content with their little cot in Eileen’s house and their job of working on the farm. They have to be pressured to pursue luxuries.
Kenos tends to live in the present. They don’t dwell on the past and they don’t look toward the future, finding it easy to just take their life day by day. Kenos isn't as emotionally inexpressive as they seem, but rather they've built up some pretty tough walls around their emotions. It can take a lot to make them feel, but when Kenos feels, they feel hard, and are actually kind of a crybaby. If their emotions were a dial, it would only have 0, 5, and 100.
Ultimately, Kenos is a scared kid just trying to survive and avoid pain. They want to live a serene and quiet existence, and are content to live out their life picking strawberries on Miss Eileen’s farm.
POWERS: A one-way interdimensional portal in their stomach, used to deliver ingredients to their assigned witch. The only things transported are what they're capable of swallowing. This portal may be severed entirely upon being kidnapped by Qri, which might actually be benefical to them, allowing them to feel full (and maybe get a better grip on the whole not-eating-humans-on-sight thing.)
OTHER: Demons, and especially hunger-gatherers, tend to be more resilient than humans. Kenos has tough skin and a pretty high pain tolerance; you might have to thwack them two or three more times than you would a human to knock them down. They're also pretty strong, though I don't think it's beyond what a (trained) human could manage.
GAME INFO;
MAGIC ABILITY: Strawberry plant conjuring! This requires them to sacrifice some of their own energy/life force, how much depends on how grown they want the plant to be. They could use a little bit to spawn little saplings that need to be cared for and grow before bearing any strawberries, or they could use a lot to spawn fully grown bushes with strawberries already attached. If they use too much energy for this, they could knock themself unconcious (or even die if they were already low or seriously injured.)
PRICE: Their memory of Eileen. (This is going to drive them nuts. "WHY WAS I PICKING STRAWBERRIES?? WHY DO I KNOW WHAT SMOKING IS???? WH--")
ACCLIMATION: 4. They're nervous, not used to interacting with people, and I think a large concern of theirs will be "oh my god theres so many humans here I don't want to hurt them--"
SAMPLE;
LINKED SAMPLE: Being pestered by friendship and helpfulness.
